Reglazing FAQs

Q: Is “reglazing” the same as “refinishing”?
A: Yes, they are both describe the act of preparing and refinishing porcelain, tile or laminate fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen.

Q: Can I refinish my tub with a DIY kit from a home improvement store?
A: No. DIY kits are limited in strength and durability. They usually fail within a month or two. Most kits are rolled or brushed on the fixture, giving an unsightly looking amateur finish. Some kits are sprayed on with an aerosol can, causing uneven coverage, dry spray and drips. The mirror-like finish you really want cannot be achieved without proper training and experience and professional spray equipment.

Q: Will a refinished bathtub look or smell like it has been painted?
A: No! This is a common myth in the bathtub refinishing industry. Your bathtub will not look like it was painted, since the material we use is more like a coating than a paint. In fact, it is impossible for an untrained eye to tell the difference between a brand new bathtub and one that has been refinished. Regarding the smell, we use ventilation and filtering systems to reduce the fumes that naturally occur with the use of solvents. Although you may notice a slight odor after we are finished, this typically is gone in a few hours..

Q: How long will a refinished bathtub, countertop, and tile wall last?
A: Our refinished bathtub, countertop, and tile wall can easily last 8 to 10 years with proper care and maintenance. Most of our customers have their refinished-bathtubs, which still look and feel great even after 10 years.

Q: How durable are refinished or resurfaced bathtubs?
A: We use the most advanced coating available. These coatings are designed to stand up to daily use and do not require special care. However, like a bathtub, a refinished or resurfaced surface can be chipped or scratched if it is abused and not taken care of.

Q: How long does it take to refinish a bathtub?
A: A standard sized bathtub, takes only 3 to 5 hours to refinish. The tub will typically be ready to use within 24 hours. Ask us about our Mega-Fast finish which only cures within 4 hours.

Q: What is refinishing cost compare to replacement costs?
A: Refinishing costs vary but refinishing will always be a fraction of the total cost of replacing a bathtub or ceramic tile. Replacing a bathtub and surround can easily cost $2000 or more. Refinishing can save you up to 80% compared to the cost of replacement!

Q: What colors are available?
A: We can match an existing color or create almost any custom color of your choice. Our customers also, send us color samples from Sherwin Williams for color matching. Custom colors will cost usually more.

Q: Can chips, scratches and cracks be fixed?
A: Small chips and cracks can usually be repaired during the refinishing process. The repaired chip will be almost invisible.

Q: How good is refinishing work on Kitchen countertops?
A: Refinishing works extremely well on all types of Formica countertops, tile vanities, and even cultured marble counters. The finish is very durable and easy to clean. It is also very cost effective. Our granite look finish is an affordable way to update your countertops tremendously.

Q: Is there a warranty?
A: Each residential tub comes with one-year warranty against peeling or other failure of adhesion for bathtubs, wall tile, and fiberglass. Chips, cracks, rust, man-made damages can be fixed but are not covered under warranty, however a service fee of only $75 would get this taken care of, or any other issues out-of-warranty.
